Social media sensation Reika Kuroki, who captures the hearts of 500,000 Instagram followers under the alias "Reika Miyazaki," recently found herself on the wrong side of the law. The 38-year-old influencer was handed a two-year and six-month prison sentence, suspended for four years, after being convicted of tax evasion. Her company, Solarie, wasn't spared either – facing a fine of 40 million yen, as reported by The Japan News.
Kuroki's legal woes began when it was discovered that she had hidden approximately 496 million yen in income over a span of three years. This was achieved through fictitious outsourcing expenses, resulting in evasion of around 157 million yen in taxes. The Tokyo Reporter cited the indictment, highlighting the organized nature of her scheme, which was driven by self-interest. Despite the court's stern words, her sentence was suspended following her submission of amended tax returns.
"I deeply regret my actions and have taken steps to rectify my mistakes," Kuroki reportedly stated during the court proceedings.
During an earlier hearing, Kuroki confessed to the charges against her but raised eyebrows by accusing a tax investigator of sexual harassment during a home raid. The Tokyo Regional Taxation Bureau has firmly refuted these claims, as reported by the Tokyo Reporter. Known online as a "charismatic working mom" and Japan's leading influencer, Kuroki maintained her composure, bowing quietly while exiting the court.
As this dramatic chapter unfolds, the influencer community and her followers are left to ponder the consequences of such high-profile legal battles. It serves as a stark reminder of the importance of transparency and honesty, even in the glamorous world of social media stardom.
