Olympic speed skater Elsie Christie, known for her whirlwind performances at the Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Sochi, and PyeongChang between 2010 and 2018, has embarked on an unexpected journey. After retiring from her sports career in 2021, Christie found herself facing the financial struggles that many athletes encounter. To sustain herself, she chose a new path as an OnlyFans creator.
In a candid interview with The Telegraph, Christie shared the reasons behind her decision to join OnlyFans. "I’m trying to get to the point where I’m not doing it, but it’s not easy financially," she revealed, highlighting how challenging it can be to support oneself after the spotlight fades.
“I probably never would have done it with that diagnosis, but I do believe that it got me out of a very difficult time,” Christie mentioned, referring to her diagnosis with bipolar disorder.
Joining the platform was a decision she didn’t take lightly. Christie explained that the financial support from OnlyFans, which pays £5,000 for every 700 subscribers, has been crucial. Despite the stigma, she sees it as a means to an end.
While OnlyFans wasn't something she ever imagined doing, Christie views it as a temporary solution. The transition hasn't been without its challenges. Some of her closest friends have distanced themselves due to her choice, yet Christie remains resilient.
She expressed a desire to return to the sports world eventually, stating, "This isn’t my long-term goal in life. I want to be involved in sport. But at the minute, it helps keep me afloat." Despite the hurdles, Christie is determined to carve out a future that aligns with her passion for athletics while managing her current reality.
Through it all, she has learned to navigate the platform in a way that feels authentic and comfortable for her, challenging preconceived notions about what it means to be an OnlyFans creator.
