The 2026 Emmy nominations have been announced, and oh boy, they did not disappoint in delivering some serious drama! Hosted by the fabulous Mariska Hargitay of 'Law & Order: SVU' fame, the announcement was filled with unexpected snubs and delightful surprises that have left the entertainment world buzzing.
Most eyes were on the expected nominees from shows like 'The Pitt,' 'Hacks,' and the newcomer 'Widow’s Bay.' However, the real shock came with some big stars missing from the list. Jeremy Allen White, who has been a favorite for his role in 'The Bear,' was notably absent from the Best Actor in a Comedy Series category, marking a surprising end to his Emmy streak.
“It’s always a rollercoaster with Emmy nominations,” shared an industry insider, “but this year, the snubs are particularly surprising.”
Sydney Sweeney, who captivated audiences with her performance in the final season of 'Euphoria,' was another major snub. Despite her compelling portrayal, she didn’t make the cut this year. Her co-stars, Zendaya and Colman Domingo, however, did receive nominations, which only adds to the sting of her exclusion.
Paul Anthony Kelly, who portrayed John F. Kennedy Jr. in FX’s 'Love Story,' was also shut out, despite the series and his co-stars receiving recognition. The same fate met Ethan Hawke for his performance in 'The Lowdown' and the ensemble cast of 'The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins.'
On the flip side, there were some delightful surprises! The Apple TV+ series 'Widow’s Bay' stole headlines by racking up 19 nominations, proving it's a force to be reckoned with. And Jason Bateman managed to pull off a rare feat with nominations in both lead and supporting actor categories for 'Black Rabbit' and 'DTF St. Louis,' respectively.
In a rather unexpected twist, Connor Storrie garnered attention for his 'Saturday Night Live' hosting gig, earning him a Guest Actor nomination. Even though he wasn't eligible for his role in 'Heated Rivalry,' the nod for 'SNL' keeps his Emmy dreams alive.
The ceremony promises to be a night to remember, taking place live at the Peacock Theater in LA on September 14. With so many surprises already, who knows what the actual event will bring?
