A school in Skelmersdale found itself in hot water after parents discovered an eyebrow-raising clause in its social media policy. Delph Side Primary School had been allowing its staff to use OnlyFans – a platform now synonymous with adult content – as part of its communication guidelines. "I find it disturbing that my child's school has a 'social networking and use of social media policy' that includes teachers' use of OnlyFans," they said.

"I find it odd to refer to OnlyFans as social media," the parent added, highlighting the platform's controversial reputation.

Headteacher Responds to Backlash

In response to the uproar, headteacher Liz Ormerod clarified that the offending section of the policy was outdated and did not reflect the platform's current association with adult content. She explained that the inclusion of OnlyFans was based on old local authority guidance and was simply a remnant from a previous policy update.

Ms. Ormerod stated, "The reference to OnlyFans was included as part of a generic list of social media platforms taken from local authority guidance a number of years ago." She further assured that the school's policy had been amended to exclude OnlyFans, although the online documents had yet to be updated at the time of reporting.

Updating Policies to Reflect Current Standards

The headteacher emphasized the importance of maintaining professional standards and safeguarding protocols. "All staff are expected to maintain the highest professional standards at all times and are subject to strict safeguarding and conduct requirements," Ms. Ormerod affirmed.

The incident has spurred Delph Side Primary to review its policies thoroughly to align with today's expectations and ensure no further misinterpretations occur. Meanwhile, the school remains committed to transparency and open communication with parents to rebuild trust and confidence in its policies.
