The Arrest in Krabi

In a dramatic turn of events, police in Krabi, Thailand, have arrested an Israeli woman alongside two Thai nationals as part of a sweeping operation targeting nominee companies. This crackdown, which took place on April 23, is linked to over 500 firms stretching across Krabi, Phuket, and Surat Thani. The investigation began when authorities discovered an accounting company allegedly registering businesses for foreigners using Thai nationals as shareholders. This arrangement supposedly concealed foreign business activities in these regions.

A Network Uncovered

Authorities uncovered that one address was being used to register as many as six nominee companies, revealing a sprawling network. During an intensive search of an office in Krabi's Mueang district, officials found documents tied to nominee company registrations spanning three provinces. These documents allegedly showed that foreigners were being assisted in working and residing in Thailand unlawfully.

“The operation dismantles a major nominee network in South Thailand,” officers reported, highlighting the scale of the investigation.

OnlyFans Connection

On the second floor of the investigated premises, authorities discovered a makeshift office complete with unusable computers and misleading signs for over 100 companies. This setup was reportedly designed to give the impression of active business operations. It was here that investigators connected the Israeli woman to the network. Her registered company, supposedly offering makeup and nail teaching services, was allegedly a front for producing and selling adult content on OnlyFans.

Further Investigations and Arrests

Following these findings, Mae Sot Police Station was instructed to arrest two Thai nationals accused of acting as nominees and facilitating the establishment of multiple foreign-owned companies. The probe is expanding to scrutinize the network's financial trails and potential violations of foreign business, nominee, labor, and tax laws. Khaosod reported that this operation represents a significant effort to combat the misuse of legal loopholes allowing foreigners to unlawfully operate businesses, thereby impacting Thailand's economy and business competition.

Wider Implications

In a similar case, another Israeli national was arrested in Phuket for allegedly operating a travel agency illegally through a Thai nominee. This arrest, conducted by the Department of Tourism and Tourist Police officers, highlights the pervasive issue of nominee companies breaching Thai law. As investigations continue, further action is anticipated against those exploiting these legal gaps.
