Kym Marsh, beloved actress and television presenter, recently opened up about the emotional turmoil her family experienced upon learning of her father's prostate cancer diagnosis. Her late father, Dave Marsh, bravely battled the disease for three years before passing away at the age of 74 in 2024. The cancer, unfortunately, had spread after he delayed seeking medical attention during the pandemic.
Reflecting on her father's battle, the former Coronation Street star revealed, “When we found out dad was terminally ill and his cancer was incurable, it broke us.” She emphasized the devastating impact such a diagnosis can have on a family, especially when it is caught too late.
“He was just dad. He was everything to everyone – brave, funny, and so supportive,” Kym fondly remembered, highlighting her father's indomitable spirit.
Determined to honor her father's legacy, Kym has since become a passionate advocate for prostate cancer awareness. Her father, described as the "don of the family," was eager to help others from the moment he learned of his condition. Together, they campaigned to raise awareness and educate others on the importance of early detection.
In a touching gesture of solidarity and love, Kym's son-in-law, Mikey Hoszowskyj, participated in the TCS London Marathon in 2024 to support Prostate Cancer UK. Further cementing the family's dedication, her future daughter-in-law, Carmen Dickinson, plans to run the marathon in memory of Dave Marsh, despite never having met him. Kym expressed her gratitude, saying, "It’s just so lovely she wants to do this for us and for him, and for prostate cancer."
Prostate cancer remains the most common cancer among men, with one in eight expected to receive a diagnosis in their lifetime. Given its slow development, early signs are often missed, underscoring the need for awareness and timely medical check-ups. Kym and her family hope to transform their personal loss into a positive force for change, ensuring others are not caught unaware.
Through their unwavering commitment to raising awareness, Kym Marsh and her family continue to keep Dave Marsh's memory alive, celebrating his life and fighting for a future where fewer families face the same heartbreak.
