Apple TV and A24's adaptation of Rufi Thorpe's novel 'Margo's Got Money Troubles' has been capturing attention, but one character is noticeably absent. In the book, JB plays a significant role in Margo's life, but fans are left wondering why he hasn't appeared in the TV series.
In the original story, JB, portrayed by Michael Workéyè, is a devoted OnlyFans client of Margo, played by Elle Fanning. Their online flirtations soon blossom into a full-fledged romantic relationship. However, this romance has been entirely cut from the series. Thorpe revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that despite efforts to include JB's storyline, it was ultimately removed due to the challenges of translating the nuanced romance from page to screen.
“They tried to keep all of the JB love story, but there was just too much material,” Thorpe explained. “It was really jarring to move from some of the more dramatic moments to flirting on your phone. They're not in the same room together, and you can do that kind of thing in novels but it just didn't translate to the screen.”
While JB's absence may disappoint some fans, the series still has plenty to offer. It shifts focus to Margo's other relationships, including her supportive mother Shyanne (Michelle Pfeiffer) and father Jinx (Nick Offerman), as well as her vibrant roommates and OnlyFans collaborators. 'Margo's Got Money Troubles' continues to stream on Apple TV every Wednesday, keeping viewers on their toes with each new episode.
