Ever wondered what it really means to earn a living in the adult entertainment industry? A new survey by SWR Data sheds light on the truth behind the numbers. While the allure of six-figure monthly incomes exists, it’s not the norm for most adult creators. According to their findings, the average adult content creator brings in about $58,700 annually, which breaks down to approximately $5,000 each month.
“While many factors influence who earns how much...one factor correlates with higher incomes more than anything else: the amount of time spent in the industry,” SWR Data wrote in a Substack post.
SWR Data’s State of the Creator survey, conducted in the fall of 2025 with over 550 participants, reveals intriguing insights. For newcomers to the industry, the average income sits at around $16,000 a year. However, for those who've been in the game for over five years, that figure jumps to a notable $74,000 annually. And for those veteran creators who exclusively rely on their adult work, the average income soars beyond $111,000.
The survey also highlights that only 35 percent of creators are entirely dependent on their adult industry income for survival. Meanwhile, a significant 51 percent have additional sources of income outside of adult work. This paints a picture of a diverse set of income streams and reliance on multiple ventures.
The findings emphasize that while the industry offers lucrative opportunities, it’s a varied landscape. More research is necessary to fully understand the diverse earnings of adult stars, but it’s clear that the top earners represent only a fraction of the field.
