Prepare yourself for the latest buzz from HBO's sensation, 'Euphoria,' where Sydney Sweeney's character, Cassie, is stirring up quite the storm. On the Sunday, May 10 episode, Cassie amped up her OnlyFans game with the help of Maddie, played by Alexa Demie, diving headfirst into creating bold and graphic content. The scenes range from sultry audio messages to Cassie fearlessly filming herself in risqué situations. Plus, her topless ventures continue to capture viewers' attention.
While fans are undoubtedly glued to their screens, not everyone is thrilled with Cassie's OnlyFans storyline. Some creators from the platform have voiced their concerns over how their work is depicted. Yet, 'Euphoria' creator Sam Levinson isn't backing down. He stands firm, saying, "[Cassie] has got her dog house and her little dog ears and the nose, and that has its own humor. But what makes the scene is the fact that her housekeeper is the one filming it." The blending of humor and absurdity is what he believes gives the show its unique edge.
To bring these scenes to life, Levinson and director of photography Marcell Rév opted for a distinctive style. They chose a mid-century home setting – a quirky choice reminiscent of the '70s – to create a specific aesthetic juxtaposed against the typical OnlyFans vibe. Rév explains, "OnlyFans has its own aesthetic and how you elevate that aesthetic to the show’s aesthetic is a challenge. I’m not going to lie."
Despite the criticism, Levinson maintains his creative vision. "Some of these scenes we only lit with these ring lights that she would use," he adds. The aim was to immerse the audience in Cassie's world while also pulling them back to reveal the stark reality behind the glamour.
Euphoria airs on HBO Sundays at 9 p.m. ET.
