The swift enactment of the law left Dessie unable to access funds in her camming account, and she now fears the lack of privacy in alternative platforms like Snapchat or WhatsApp. "It feels like one day I heard about the bill, and all of a sudden it was a full-on law," she lamented.

Concerns Over Safety and Privacy

The shift to unauthorized platforms has heightened concerns about privacy and safety among sex workers. With personal information more exposed, the risk of harassment and loss of anonymity looms larger than ever. Although Dessie initially turned to camming for fun and supplementary income, the new law has stripped away the sense of security she once had.

"Camming wasn’t one of my main sources of income," Dessie explained, "but it’s quite sad, and it sucks that we’re not allowed to do what we want with our bodies." As Sweden continues to navigate this legal terrain, the conversation around sex work and personal agency remains as crucial as ever.
