Accused of having a steamy affair with Shahid Sharif, a convicted robber, Dale's actions allegedly took place at HMP Coldingley in Surrey. It's not just the illicit relationship that's raising eyebrows – she's also facing serious allegations of smuggling drugs and phones to inmates.
On October 27, Dale made her appearance at Southwark Crown Court, charged with two counts of misconduct in a public office and conspiracy to convey prohibited items into the prison – charges she firmly denies. Prosecutor Kieran Brand laid out the prosecution's case, revealing that on July 19, 2022, Dale and Sharif were seen entering a multi-faith room together. Just four minutes later, they emerged, with Dale seemingly adjusting her belt – a detail the prosecution suggests is telling.
“The multi-faith room is not covered by CCTV: the prosecution say it is clear they went in there for some form of sexual activity.”
Further incriminating details emerged as texts from Sharif to Dale surfaced, with Sharif expressing satisfaction with their encounter. A subsequent search of Sharif's cell unveiled love letters and provocative photos of Dale, adding more fuel to the fiery allegations. The prosecution also claims Dale visited Sharif on three more occasions, with CCTV capturing moments of intimacy.
Despite Sharif's transfer to another prison, Dale allegedly maintained contact through emails, sending explicit images and even transferring £100. She is also accused of aiding Sharif in smuggling spice-laced envelopes into his new location, a charge he has already admitted to.
In a twist that adds complexity to the case, Dale is also suspected of having a similar relationship with another inmate, Connor Money. Text exchanges hint at an emotional connection, with Dale expressing genuine feelings for Money.
As the trial unfolds, Dale remains resolute in her innocence, denying all charges. The case highlights a concerning pattern of female prison officers engaging in inappropriate relationships with inmates, a topic recently explored in a BBC documentary focusing on HMP Wandsworth's sex tape scandal.
