Hold onto your hats, OnlyFans fans! The popular adult platform is shaking things up by introducing criminal background checks for U.S. creators. Keily Blair, the CEO of OnlyFans, recently revealed this bold new step on LinkedIn. The checks, conducted by AI-powered screening service Checkr, have stirred up quite the conversation.
For creators eager to share their content on OnlyFans, the requirements just got a little more rigorous. In addition to providing multiple forms of personal identification – like a government ID and banking information – they must now pass a criminal background check. Blair explained on LinkedIn, "Checkr, Inc. helps OnlyFans to prevent people who have a criminal conviction, which may impact our community's safety, from signing up as a Creator on OnlyFans."
Checkr isn’t new to the background check game. The service, also used by companies like Uber and DoorDash, boasts that 99 percent of its checks are automated with human oversight. However, it has been no stranger to controversy, facing numerous lawsuits from 2015 to 2020 under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Accusations have included misreporting crimes and failing to flag outdated criminal activity.
OnlyFans isn't alone in this move. Just last month, Pornhub also announced plans to implement criminal background checks for its content partners. This industry-wide shift towards heightened safety measures coincides with increased legislative scrutiny of adult platforms, including age-verification laws.
While OnlyFans and Checkr have remained tight-lipped in response to requests for comments, the initiative signals a significant stride toward ensuring a safer environment for both creators and fans alike.
