This new requirement, recently revealed by the platform's CEO, Keily Blair, on LinkedIn, will be part of the onboarding process for creators looking to upload content. The introduction of this policy underscores OnlyFans' commitment to community safety, as the adult platform seeks to prevent individuals with potentially harmful criminal convictions from signing up as creators.

The Controversial Role of Checkr

To facilitate these background checks, OnlyFans is partnering with Checkr, Inc., a company known for its AI-powered screening capabilities. While the technology promises efficiency, it's not without its controversies. According to Checkr, 99 percent of its background checks are automated with human oversight to ensure quality. However, the company has faced multiple lawsuits between 2015 and 2020, which cited issues like misreporting crimes and flagging outdated criminal activities. More recently, in 2022, Checkr was involved in a lawsuit alleging improper screening of Uber drivers using stolen identities. Another lawsuit in 2023 pointed out failures in identifying a DoorDash driver's criminal history.

“Checkr, Inc. helps OnlyFans to prevent people who have a criminal conviction, which may impact our community's safety, from signing up as a Creator on OnlyFans,” Blair stated on LinkedIn.
