Martina's Journey from Hobby to Success

Martina Calvi, originally from Sydney, has turned a simple childhood pastime into a booming seven-figure career. It all began with a gentle push from her mother during a family trip when Martina was just eight years old. As a way to remember their travels, her mom encouraged her to document their adventures in a travel diary. "My mum really wanted to make sure we'd actually remember it, so we had just one requirement, which was to do a page a day in our travel diary," Martina shared with Nine.com.au.

Martina's creative process didn't always involve writing. Instead, she found joy in collecting mementos and pasting them into her diary, marking the start of her lifelong love for scrapbooking. This routine, maintained through the years, eventually blossomed into a full-blown passion.

Social Media Fame and Publishing Success

Fast forward to the present day, and Martina is a 30-year-old artist known for her sentimental and crafty flair. Just three years ago, she began sharing her scrapbook pages on social media, enchanting followers around the globe. "I've dabbled in all forms of creation, but since sharing my journals online, my career has completely shifted," Martina explained.

Her social media posts quickly went viral, catching the attention of a publisher who saw the potential for a book. "When I first got the message from my now-editor, it was sitting in my message requests on Instagram, and I literally thought it was a fake message, like I thought it was spam," Martina recalled, with a smile.

Publishing Triumph and the Crafty Renaissance

Martina's debut book, "The Art of Memory Collecting," published in October 2024, resonated deeply with readers, selling out entirely. Her success didn't stop there – she has since gathered over half a million followers on social media, launched her own stationery line, and released a second book, "A Year of Junk Journaling," which nabbed the 2026 Creative Book Awards.

Reflecting on her journey, Martina remarked, "It's something I've always done and never really thought so deeply about, but when I saw how much it resonated with people and inspired them, I just thought, wow, this is actually quite a good thing."

In a world increasingly fatigued by digital imagery, Martina believes the appeal of her work lies in its authenticity and tactile nature. "There's something really refreshing about scrapbooks. There's something so tactile, so authentic and human," she noted. In 2026, the "year of analogue," as some have called it, Martina's work stands as a testament to the enduring appeal of analogue experiences.
