StopNCII’s tech relies on hashes of known images, meaning it can’t preemptively stop synthetic content from spreading. As Wright put it, if the image is entirely fabricated, the hash won’t catch it.
This gap is no small issue. A 2023 Bloomberg report pegged Google Search as the top traffic driver to sites hosting sexually explicit AI-generated content.
