Blake Bowman, once a trusted executive director of Camp Thurman, a Christian summer camp in Pantego, has pleaded guilty to charges that could lead to a lengthy sentence. Between 2021 and 2022, Bowman misused funds, a revelation that sent ripples through the community. Charged with misapplication of property and theft, both first-degree felonies, Bowman was arrested in 2024. Prosecutors uncovered transactions exceeding $1 million, though the exact amount he misappropriated remains unclear.
“The magnitude of the financial misconduct is staggering,” commented a source familiar with the case, reflecting the community's shock.
In a bold move, Bowman entered an open plea in February, admitting guilt to both charges. This decision leaves his fate in the hands of the court, which could sentence him to anywhere between five and 99 years in prison, in addition to hefty fines. His attorney has remained tight-lipped, as has the Tarrant County district attorney’s office, due to the ongoing nature of the case.
Court documents reveal that Bowman used camp credit cards for personal expenses and linked his PayPal to the camp's bank account. Intriguingly, state officials found ties between Camp Thurman and OnlyFans, an adult-subscription service, as noted in a 2025 court filing.
Bowman's professional journey took several turns post-camp. In late 2022, he joined Weatherford ISD as a fourth-grade teacher and continued until 2023. He then transitioned to Burleson ISD before resigning in August 2025. The Texas Education Agency is currently reviewing his teacher certification, though details remain under wraps.
Indicted in April 2024 and arrested a month later, Bowman's legal troubles deepened with a reindictment in January 2025 following new embezzlement allegations. As the investigation unfolds, the community anxiously awaits the court's decision.
