Remember Joel Morris? He was just 13 when he first captured the internet's heart with his gaming streams and viral challenges on YouTube, amassing an impressive two million subscribers. Fast forward to today, and Morris has taken on a new role in the creator economy. In 2020, alongside co-founders Will Monange and Harry Fitzgerald, he launched Fanvue – a platform that offers creators a fresh way to earn by charging for exclusive content, sidestepping traditional brand partnerships.
“This massive paradox is that advertising is how creators make the money, but it’s quite negative for their audience,” says Morris.
Fanvue's concept of offering exclusive content isn’t entirely new, but it's the platform's unique AI offerings that are turning heads. With a recent $22 million Series A funding round led by Inner Circle, and boasting 17 million monthly users, Fanvue is set to expand globally and enhance its AI features.
Fanvue is making waves with its suite of AI capabilities designed to ease the creator workload. These include sophisticated analytics tools for understanding viewer behavior, an AI coach for content and revenue strategies, and even AI-generated content options. One standout feature is the partnership with ElevenLabs, enabling creators to clone their voices for voice messages or calls, delivering an intimate fan experience without the time-consuming demands.
James Cox, co-founder of Inner Circle, shares his insights: “We became interested in the thesis around ‘how can you augment technology within the conventional creator economy?’”
Fanvue isn't just stopping at enhancing human influencer capabilities. The platform is venturing into the realm of AI influencers, catering to those who dream of creating without stepping into the limelight. Monange notes that AI-powered avatars and content are unlocking opportunities for many to participate in the creator economy.
The platform charges a 20% fee on monthly subscriptions, which average around $12.50, and the same rate on one-off content purchases. This model draws a diverse crowd, from athletes like Swiss soccer star Alisha Lehmann to educators offering courses on everything from AI platforms to music production.
Fanvue also addresses concerns about AI misuse by partnering with Hive for content moderation, ensuring transparency and authenticity in AI-generated content. As Morris puts it, “We’re not trying to replace any kind of interaction, we’re really trying to create new experiences.”
As Fanvue continues to innovate, it remains a key player in transforming how creators and fans connect, promising a future where the possibilities feel endless.
