Olympic speed skater Elsie Christie, a familiar face from the Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Sochi, and PyeongChang, has taken a surprising turn in her career. After hanging up her skates in 2021, the British athlete has ventured into the world of OnlyFans, sharing her experiences and challenges in a candid interview.
Like many athletes who don’t quite reach the top tier of fame, Christie faced financial hurdles post-retirement. Despite her impressive Olympic runs, she found herself struggling to make ends meet. This led her to explore a completely different career path, and at 35, Christie is now not just an OnlyFans content creator but also works at Pizza Hut. In a recent chat with The Telegraph, she shared, "I’m trying to get to the point where I’m not doing it, but it’s not easy financially."
“It’s very different from anything I would have imagined doing. It all started before I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder,” Christie explained, highlighting how her journey into content creation began.
Christie's decision to join OnlyFans wasn’t taken lightly. She reflected on the scrutiny she received both as an athlete and now as a content creator. "I decided that being slagged off for this had nothing on being slagged off for my skating," she confessed. Despite some friends distancing themselves due to her new venture, she remains focused on her goals. "This isn’t my long-term goal in life. I want to be involved in sport. But at the minute, it helps keep me afloat," she admitted.
Christie's journey highlights the often difficult transition athletes face after retirement, and her story serves as a reminder that career paths can be as unpredictable as they are varied.
