Elle Fanning has opened up about her experience with nudity in her latest Apple TV+ series, 'Margo's Got Money Troubles'. The Oscar-nominated actress is proud of the series' approach to skin exposure, emphasizing its meaningful depiction rather than a gratuitous display.
In the show, Fanning plays Margo, a college student who finds herself pregnant by her English professor and turns to OnlyFans to navigate her financial struggles. The series, adapted from Rufi Thorpe's novel by showrunner David E. Kelley, carefully handles its portrayal of nudity. Fanning shared that she had extensive discussions to ensure that the nudity presented felt essential and purposeful.
“I'm really proud of how the nudity is depicted on [Margo's Got Money Troubles], because it's not in an overly sexualized way at all,” she shared with PEOPLE.
Fanning further explained that the nudity in the series is more about the realities of motherhood, such as breastfeeding, rather than sexualization. This aspect of the show presents a unique commentary on how Margo's relationship with her body evolves as she juggles motherhood and her OnlyFans career.
She highlighted that nudity is "never the focal point of the scene," which she found creatively stimulating rather than awkward. This thoughtful approach sets the show apart, offering viewers a nuanced perspective on the character's journey.
Preparing for the role required some unexpected physical preparations. Fanning revealed that she used prosthetics equipped with a milk-squirting mechanism for the breastfeeding scenes. "I would be in the trailer and they'd put them on, and then I would feel like, 'OK, I'm just going to walk out.' And I'm like, 'Wait a second, I can't walk out. This isn't a shirt.'"
The series boasts an impressive cast, including stars like Nicole Kidman, Michelle Pfeiffer, Nick Offerman, Michael Angarano, Thaddea Graham, and Greg Kinnear. 'Margo's Got Money Troubles' releases new episodes every Wednesday on Apple TV+.
