In a move that has stirred both surprise and discussion, OnlyFans – the sizzling subscription-based platform – has now become inaccessible in China. Despite its recent brief accessibility, the site, known for its adult content, has been added to the extensive list of websites blocked in the country.
Social media users were abuzz in late November, noting that OnlyFans seemed to have slipped through China's notorious internet restrictions. CNN confirmed the site's accessibility during this time, sparking a wave of commentary on platforms like X and Weibo. Many joked about the potential for job opportunities, quipping that OnlyFans might be a new avenue for fresh graduates facing a tough job market.
“Isn’t this another measure to provide employment?” one witty social media user mused, while another chimed in, “This is a good company that gives creators 90% of the income! Isn’t it better than actual work??”
The Chinese government maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards sexually explicit content, a stance that leads to the blocking of thousands of websites, including OnlyFans. Despite its adult content reputation, OnlyFans hosts a variety of creator content, including music and fitness videos. Last year, the platform even launched a streaming service focused on comedy and sports, free of adult content.
Previously, it was reported that OnlyFans became unblocked on November 29, a claim corrected by GreatFire.Org. They clarified the site had been accessible since July 2020. However, recent data from GreatFire shows the platform has been blocked again since December 11.
