Hey there, art lovers! If you’re looking for something delightfully different to spice up your day, swing by Foyer, the charming pink Victorian home-turned-gallery at 135 Park Ave. in Athens. Before you even cross the threshold, Jack Jiggles’ ‘Only Fans’ exhibition teases you with a vibrant, full-size outdoor fan painted in eye-popping colors.
Step inside, and the foyer (yes, pun intended!) welcomes you with a neat row of refurbished vintage fans. But the real magic happens in the main room, where a towering wall of spinning blades creates a mesmerizing collage that’ll literally blow you away. Trust us, it’s a breeze you won’t want to miss through October 26.
At the heart of this windy wonderland is Jack Jiggles, a former electrician with a passion for breathing new life into old machines. With 25 years of crawling through tight spaces behind him, Jack’s traded in his toolkit for something far cooler - restoring vintage electric fans with a flair that’s pure art. From thrift store finds to flea market treasures, he’s got an eye for the neglected beauties of yesteryear.
Each fan in the exhibition hums with personality after Jack’s meticulous touch. Think polished aluminum bases, rewired motors, and high-gloss finishes that strip away decades of grime. Some stay true to their original muted tones, while others get playful makeovers with chicken head knobs (meant for guitar amps!) and clownish color combos of red, yellow, and blue - waving ‘hello’ as they oscillate.
“There’s something so satisfying about nursing these old fans back to life - it’s like giving them a warm bowl of soup before sending them out into the world again,” Jack shared with a grin.
The ‘Only Fans’ concept spun into existence last September, thanks to a cheeky brainstorm with Foyer’s curator, Jaime Bull. Jack pitched the idea at another show’s opening, insisting it had to be a summer event to transform the gallery into a full-on wind tunnel. Jaime was hooked the moment she saw his workshop, brimming with painted hatchets, box cutters, and, of course, fans galore.
The name ‘Only Fans’ clicked instantly - a playful nod to Jack’s focused collection amidst his treasure trove of tools. Jaime knew they had a hit on their hands, and the result is a room buzzing with machines that blend history with whimsy, each spin telling a story of revival.
